A 2015 news release from the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration explained that OSHA signed a two-year alliance at the beginning of the year with the Louisiana Forestry Association, the association's contractors, and the Louisiana Logging Council.
This alliance was intended to protect loggers in the state from common industrial hazards through training and outreach. The program's ultimate goal was to prevent workplace fatalities, illnesses, and injuries such as amputations, sprains and cuts.
The focused attention on logging accidents in Louisiana is one indicator of the dangers this industry poses to workers. Injuries and deaths related to logging occur every year. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in a 2006 report, cited a number of circumstances that have led to injuries to logging workers and others in close proximity to logging operations in Louisiana. Those included:

- Overturned logging trucks in accidents involving at-fault cars and trucks
- Accidents involving load binders
- Workers slipping while dismounting
- Falling object injuries
